NYC Therapy with Counseling to Comfort

Our Start

Counseling to Comfort™ was birthed in 2021 due to the global pandemic. Seeing the nation’s heightened stress, anxiety and depression levels; couples (and families) increasingly splitting due to tension and violence moved our founder, Quinelle Hickman (a licensed marriage and family therapist) to assist. She began sharing coping and communication tips on social media. Tips to help ease worry and sadness, bring families closer and build community with like-minded people interested in mental health and relationship discussions with a relatable therapist. In a span of 3 years those tips lead to over 5600 virtual individual and couples therapy sessions, 6 in person community events, and 5 organizational talks and workshops (and counting). Increasing access to relatable mental health care and education and decreasing the stigma associated with therapy with each interaction. We’re excited to continue growing.

About Alexa Kneule, Therapy Intern

Ever since attending my own therapy sessions as a teen, and experiencing just how life changing therapy can be, I knew I wanted to help others by providing therapy myself. Keeping in mind what it’s like to feel seen in a safe space, my approach to therapy is to create a warm and welcoming environment where my clients can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

My work experience as a nanny has allowed me the opportunity to provide real time, hands-on support to families as they navigate the many struggles that they discuss in the therapy setting. Thus the insight I provide while helping clients achieve work-life balance, parenthood, and relationship goals will be practical and solution focused. Families I’ve worked with often commended my ability to problem solve and communicate effectively while remaining patient, professional, and empathetic in my work.

With a Bachelors in Psychology from Manhattan University, I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Manhattan University as well. I am excited to gain more knowledge and experience as I continue to work towards becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist. Thank you in advance for allowing me to assist you.

Fun facts about me, in case you can relate. When I’m not working, I find balance in the little moments. Like spending time with my cat Ally and going on (really long) walks around New York City. I also find joy in educating others on mental health resources.
